Bobby Allison made his first start in the stock car racing world in 1959. His first major win came in Montgomery, Alabama. During the next couple of years, he had a run of success. Among other accomplishments, he won the Modified Crown in 1963, and the second national NASCAR “Modified Special Crown” in 1964. Afterward, he began to look for more lucrative racing in south Florida.

In 1972, he set up his own company, Bobby Allison Motorsports, which won eight more races in the year. His most memorable moment was a victory in the Daytona 500. On this occasion, he was driving a Ford car for Robert Yates Racing. That victory made him famous.

Although his primary profession was as a race car driver, he also owned a boat, and ran boats at high speeds. It was also during this period that he learned of the importance of preventive maintenance. He was also a successful businessman and owned a company, Custom Protein, for 46 years.

When he was in his twenties, he started to run the NASCAR Sportsman circuit. After a few years, he began to compete in the NASCAR cup races. By the time he was thirty, he had won three races in a row. However, he was forced to retire after suffering several injuries.

Then, in 1985, he decided to become an owner-driver. After a short stint with DiGard Motorsports, he joined the Stavola Brothers Racing team. While there, he became close with team owner Neil Bonnett.
